Gina Mae Schubert is a mother of two children was born and raised between Prince Rupert, B. C. and Haida Gwaii.
She is the great granddaughter of Capitan Andrew Brown “Owt’iwans- Big Eagle” a great argillite carver and ship builder. Her Mother was Jean Nora Bellis and her dad, Dudley James Schubert, born in North Vancouver, was a Canadian prisoner of the 2 nd World War, and a descendant of the Overlanders.
She holds two degrees, a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and is a graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design, and has 6 years of academic education.
Gina Mae thinks in systems and is focused on solutions for her community and nation. Her passion is to restore the connection between the people and Mother Earth and sees the return of governance over the land to the Divine Feminine Matriarchs which will allow for the healing of mankind and the Earth. Tthenaltther a,k. a. Maryjane Sayazie is a keeper of the sacred Dene language. Her Dene name is Tthenaltther and her English name is Maryjane Sayazie. She was born in Uranium City, but raised in Black Lake, Saskatchewan, (also known as IR 359, Black Lake Sask camp). She is the spirit of her ancestors who prayed for the descendants of the Removal of Camp 10 that was in Churchill, Manitoba. Her Maternal grandparents and their children, escapees of Camp 10 the Removal of Denesųłine from their sacred lands to Churchill Manitoba Camp 10. Through the power of the state, the catholic church, and the department of Indian affairs displaced her people and had them moved to Stoney Sask, presently referred to as camp IR 359. On her paternal side of the family, they originated around Wollaston, Sask., Treaty 10, they are also Metis and have been displaced again by being included in Treaty 8 territory which is in the heart of the “Uranium Rush” in which they want to open the land up for exploration and destroy another part of our sacred Mother Earth.
She says: “It is in my DNA, blood, and soul that my responsibility as a Denededliné woman is to protect our sacred mother earth through teaching my survival skills which my grandmother passed down to me. I am reclaiming sacred Dene yatie chanie to reconnect with our sacred Mother Earth.
